The Amazing Opportunity...

In preparation for my audition Wednesday, I worked with my voice teacher on Tuesday. It was like boot camp for the voice. I don't know why it felt like a particularly tough lesson but it did. I sang the songs I was going to sing for the agency about 20 times. I didn't hurt my voice but I did sing A LOT. When I left the lesson I felt like I was ready. My voice teacher gave me a boost of confidence that I appreciated. I know that if I hadn't been working with her I wouldn't have felt ready to sing for an agency at all.

When I woke up today I took plenty of time to get ready and to warm up my voice. On Monday, after I got the call to come in, I did some research and found out that the casting agency I was auditioning for was a huge deal. They cast nearly everything on Broadway and they even cast movies. Apparently the new movie Across the Universe (which I really wanna see) was cast by them.

I have come to realize just how lucky I am to have gotten a call to come in. Everyone I've talked to in the city has told me what a big deal it is to be called in personally by a casting agency. I didn't realize that it wasn't that common especially for someone who isn't an Equity actor. At the audition site there were about 8 people on the list of who they were seeing. That was about all it took to convince me that I was really really lucky to be there.

At the audition I sang for several of the agency's representatives. There were about 5 people in the room and, as usual, they were all very nice. I sang my two songs and they thanked me for coming in and I went on my way. I guess it wasn't that simple, there was a lady who talked to me a bit, made me feel welcome. But to be honest it's all sort of a blur. I was so focused on doing my best that I didn't remember to take the moment in.

I do know that I did my very best, (I know it sounds cliche but what else have I got?), and that they didn't hate me (ha ha). I still don't know how or where they got my headshot & resume but they got it somewhere and called me for a "general audition." The general audition was a chance for them to meet me in person and to take notes about me (my type, voice, etc.) and, as a result, they will hopefully keep me in their files. I saw the lady taking notes on my resume so I don't think it could have been all bad. Right? ha ha I'm choosing to think positively.

Since I've never done anything like this I really don't know what to expect. I just have to wait and see if something comes up that they feel I'd be right for and hope they decide to call me in for it. Aah the waiting game, I know it all too well.
